Meet Emily Balogh
Birth Doula
Hi! I’m Emily!
If you had told me five years ago that I’d become a birth doula, I probably would have laughed and said, “Maybe someday.” It was always tucked away in the back of my mind, but life kept moving, and I never really did anything about it.
Before becoming a doula, I spent more than ten years as a nanny, caring for children and supporting families through the beautiful, messy, everyday moments of parenthood. Looking back, it feels like birth work was a natural next step. I had spent years caring for babies after they arrived, but it wasn’t until I became a mama myself that I discovered just how fascinated I was by pregnancy, labor, and birth.
I had the unmedicated hospital birth I had hoped for. I labored at home for as long as possible and arrived at the hospital already 8 centimeters dilated. Although my birth wasn’t without surprises—including a postpartum hemorrhage—I walked away feeling incredibly proud of what my body had done.
In those first hours after my daughter was born, I remember feeling happier than I knew was possible. I kept thinking, I wish every mom could feel this supported. This empowered. This proud.
That’s when I decided to stop saying, “maybe someday” and actually become a birth doula.
If I had to describe myself, I’d say I’m warm, empathetic, curious, and your biggest cheerleader. I can be the calm in the room when things feel overwhelming, or I can be the one reminding you just how incredibly strong you are when you need someone in your corner. I believe the best support is the support that meets you where you are.
I’ll celebrate every milestone with you, answer the questions that pop into your head at 9 p.m., remind you that you don’t have to have everything figured out, and help you feel a little less overwhelmed along the way.
I can be your calm. I can be your hype. And most importantly, I hope to be exactly who you need.
Years from now, when you look back on your birth, I hope one of the first things you remember is how supported you felt. I hope you remember feeling heard. I hope you remember feeling confident. I hope you remember feeling safe enough to trust yourself.
I hope you’re able to smile and say, “Emily was exactly who I needed.”
It would be an honor to support you through one of the most meaningful days of your life.
Why I got into birthwork:
My heart is to see mothers empowered daily with the strength, support and educational resource that they deserve as they and their family prepare to welcome their newest into the world.
